Program overview

What this program prepares you to do

The program that separates a tester from a Quality Engineer. Depth over checkboxes.

Deep Dive is for testers who can already do the job and know it is not enough. The gap between a competent tester and a Quality Engineer is judgment: knowing what not to test, arguing coverage with evidence, and preventing the class of defect rather than logging the instance.

Sessions are built on real project case studies from live product teams, including the failures. You will be asked to defend your test strategy in front of people who will push back on it.

You leave with a strategy document, a risk model and an analysis practice you can apply on Monday.

Who this is for

  • You have at least a year of hands on testing experience
  • You are asked for a test strategy and improvise one
  • You want to move from executing tests to owning quality

Outcomes

  • Apply advanced test design techniques deliberately, not by habit
  • Build and defend a risk based test strategy
  • Run structured root cause analysis and drive prevention
  • Design testing frameworks and standards a team can follow
  • Report quality in terms a product lead acts on
Syllabus

Learn by building, module by module

01
Module 1

Advanced test design

Beyond boundary values. Techniques for combinational and stateful complexity.

  • •Decision tables and cause effect graphing
  • •State transition and model based thinking
  • •Pairwise and combinatorial reduction
  • •Choosing a technique for the risk in front of you

Project: A reduced but justified test set for a complex feature.

02
Module 2

Risk based testing and strategy

Deciding where the testing effort goes, and being able to say why.

  • •Risk identification, scoring and appetite
  • •Coverage models and their honest limits
  • •Writing a test strategy stakeholders will read
  • •Negotiating scope when the deadline does not move

Project: A full test strategy for a supplied product, defended in class.

03
Module 3

Root cause analysis and defect prevention

Treating each escaped defect as evidence about the process that produced it.

  • •Structured RCA techniques and causal chains
  • •Defect taxonomy and pattern analysis
  • •Shifting quality earlier in the lifecycle
  • •Prevention measures that survive a busy sprint

Project: An RCA on a real escaped defect set, with prevention proposals.

04
Module 4

Testing frameworks that scale

Standards, environments and data so testing does not collapse as the team grows.

  • •Test architecture and layering
  • •Test data strategy and environment management
  • •Non functional considerations: performance, security, accessibility
  • •Quality gates in a delivery pipeline

Project: A framework and quality gate design for a scaling team.

05
Module 5

Metrics, reporting and influence

Making quality legible to people who do not test.

  • •Metrics worth reporting, and vanity metrics to drop
  • •Release readiness and go or no go recommendations
  • •Written and verbal reporting to product and engineering
  • •Influence without formal authority

Project: A release readiness report and recommendation, defended live.

06
Final module

Project week and live defence

You stop consuming the curriculum and produce evidence of it. You take an unfamiliar product and produce the full quality picture for it.

  • •Scoping the project brief with your mentor
  • •Working the project through a full cycle, with checkpoints
  • •Preparing the written artefacts a reviewer will read
  • •Presenting and defending your decisions live

Project: A defended strategy and analysis project, certificate and report card.

How admission works
