Program overview

What this program prepares you to do

Learn to design, build and maintain automated API tests that catch integration failures before they reach a user. This is the specialisation that turns a manual tester into someone who can sign off the services behind every app.

API Test Automation is built for testers who want to own the layer where modern products break first. You move from sending the occasional Postman request to designing, building and maintaining automated API suites that run on every merge.

The programme treats API automation as software engineering: version controlled, reviewed, run in CI and expected to stay green. Every assignment is reviewed by the Automation Lead Mentor with the same written feedback you would receive on a real pull request.

By the end you can justify every test you wrote, explain why a test failed, and present an API suite a hiring manager will trust.

Who this is for

  • You test manually and want to add technical leverage
  • You are comfortable with basic API concepts and want to automate them
  • You want a specialisation that is in high demand across product teams

Outcomes

  • Design API test coverage for REST and JSON based services
  • Build automated API suites in Postman, REST Assured and Playwright API
  • Add contract checks, mocks and service virtualisation where they matter
  • Run API suites in CI with reporting and failure triage
  • Defend automation decisions in terms of risk and maintenance cost
Syllabus

Learn by building, module by module

01
Module 1

API fundamentals for testers

The protocol, the contract and the places APIs fail.

  • •HTTP methods, status codes and headers
  • •REST conventions and JSON structures
  • •Authentication patterns and token handling
  • •Reading API documentation and OpenAPI specs

Project: A written API risk map for a supplied service.

02
Module 2

Automated API testing with Postman

From manual requests to collections that run themselves.

  • •Collections, variables and environments
  • •Assertions and test scripts in Postman
  • •Data-driven testing with CSV and JSON files
  • • Newman command line execution and reporting

Project: A Postman collection with assertions, variables and a Newman run report.

03
Module 3

Code-first API automation

Writing API tests in code so they integrate with engineering workflows.

  • •REST Assured and Playwright API request patterns
  • •Project setup, dependencies and test runners
  • •Assertions, schema validation and error cases
  • •Version control and code review for test code

Project: A code-based API test suite committed and reviewed on a pull request.

04
Module 4

Contract testing, mocking and service virtualisation

Testing integrations even when the other service does not exist yet.

  • •Contract testing principles with Pact
  • •Mocking dependencies for isolated tests
  • •Service virtualisation for downstream systems
  • •When to mock, when to hit the real service

Project: A contract or mock suite that isolates the system under test.

05
Module 5

CI/CD, reporting and maintenance

Tests nobody runs are decoration. Getting the API suite into the pipeline.

  • •Pipeline configuration for API suites
  • •Parallel execution, retries and flaky test diagnosis
  • •Reporting, artefacts and failure triage
  • •Quality gates and branch protection

Project: An API suite running automatically on every merge with useful reporting.

06
Final module

Project week and live defence

You stop consuming the curriculum and produce evidence of it. You take a real API, design coverage for it, automate the tests and defend the choices.

  • •Scoping the project brief with your mentor
  • •Working the project through a full cycle, with checkpoints
  • •Preparing the written artefacts a reviewer will read
  • •Presenting and defending your decisions live

Project: A defended API automation project, certificate and report card.

How admission works

From application to certification

  1. 01

Confirm this is the program you want to take.

  2. 02

Make payment: one time in full, or split into two installments.

  3. 03

We send you a mail confirmation with your admission letter.

  4. 04

Sign the letter and send it back to us.

  5. 05

You get added to the cohort rooms.

  6. 06

    Participate in the onboarding session.

  7. 07

Learn flexibly: self study during the week, submit your assignment by 12pm (WAT) every Friday, and attend the weekly live review class with your mentor.

  8. 08

Continue until module / project week, group or personal. You work actively on the project and defend it live before invited professional leaders.

  9. 09

At the end of the program, you receive your certificate and report card.

Option A, Pay in full

₦119,000

One single payment covering the whole program. Confirms your seat immediately and is the best value option.

Option B, Two installments

2 × ₦70,000

First installment is due before onboarding and secures your seat. The second installment is due before the mid-program module / project week; access to the next module pauses until it is settled.
