Program overview

What this program prepares you to do

Built to translate your existing work experience into QA-ready skills, and to prove that translation to hiring managers.

Switch To Software Testing is for the professional who already has a career and does not intend to restart at the bottom. Marketers, teachers, support leads, accountants, operations staff: the experience you already carry is treated as an asset, and a large part of the work is learning to translate it into language a QA hiring manager values.

The technical spine is complete and unabridged. You cover test design, defect reporting, tooling, API testing and exploratory work to the same standard as any other foundation cohort, delivered in a rhythm designed around people who still have a job.

Choose the recorded track for maximum flexibility or the live track to add the weekly live review class with your named mentor. Both end in a defended project, a certificate and a report card.

Who this is for

  • You have several years of professional experience outside technology
  • You want the switch to read as a progression, not a reset
  • You need delivery that survives a full time job

Outcomes

  • Perform the full manual testing function to a professional standard
  • Reframe your existing domain experience as QA relevant strength
  • Produce a portfolio built on real applications
  • Handle API and tooling questions in interviews without bluffing
  • Leave with a defended project and a written report card
Syllabus

Learn by building, module by module

01
Module 1

Orientation for career switchers

Where you already fit. Mapping your current work to the quality function.

  • •How product teams operate and where testers sit
  • •Auditing your transferable strengths honestly
  • •The QA hiring market and what it actually rewards
  • •Setting a realistic study rhythm alongside work

Project: A written experience translation map, reviewed by your mentor.

02
Module 2

Test design and documentation

The core skill set, taught for people who will be judged against graduates with more free time.

  • •Requirements analysis and acceptance criteria
  • •Test case design techniques and coverage
  • •Test plans and test summary reports
  • •Traceability and evidence

Project: A complete test plan and suite for an assigned product area.

03
Module 3

Defects, tooling and workflow

Working inside the tools your future team already uses.

  • •Jira boards, workflows and reporting
  • •TestRail runs, results and metrics
  • •Defect writing, triage and severity conversations
  • •Collaborating with developers under deadline

Project: A managed test run with logged and triaged defects.

04
Module 4

API and integration testing

The layer that separates a confident tester from a screen clicker.

  • •HTTP, requests, responses and status codes
  • •Postman collections, variables and assertions
  • •Testing integrations and data flow between systems
  • •Reading logs to locate a failure

Project: An API test collection with assertions and a findings report.

05
Module 5

Exploratory testing and risk

Using professional judgment you already have, applied to software.

  • •Charter based exploratory sessions
  • •Risk based prioritisation under time pressure
  • •Usability and business logic defects
  • •Reporting findings to non technical stakeholders

Project: Exploratory session reports written for a business audience.

06
Module 6

Positioning, portfolio and interviews

Converting the programme into interviews and offers.

  • •A CV that reads as ten years of relevant experience
  • •Answering the career change question well
  • •Portfolio assembly and presentation
  • •Salary framing for experienced switchers

Project: Final CV, portfolio and a mock interview with written feedback.

07
Final module

Project week and live defence

You stop consuming the curriculum and produce evidence of it. Your project is scoped to look credible in an interview, not like a classroom exercise.

  • •Scoping the project brief with your mentor
  • •Working the project through a full cycle, with checkpoints
  • •Preparing the written artefacts a reviewer will read
  • •Presenting and defending your decisions live

Project: A defended project, certificate and report card.
